Coordinate a multidisciplinary team approach to child sexual abuse investigations: Videotaped forensic interviews of alleged child abuse victims, conducted in a child-friendly environment by a specially trained interviewer; child advocacy; SAFE-CARE medical exams on-site. On-site counseling services are also currently available until the end of 2010.

Also provide community education concerning child abuse; mandated reporter training

FREEDOM FROM SMOKING

Smokers who are ready to kick the habit can find the support and resources they need to be successful through our smoking cessation course. We follow the American Lung Association’s eight-session “Freedom from Smoking” program.

During the first three sessions, participants prepare a plan for quitting. The fourth session is “quit day,” and sessions five through eight are about maintaining a smoke-free life. Each session features activities and assignments that provide participants with the tools to quit smoking. The process includes both individual and group work.

You may not be a medical professional, but you may one day have an opportunity to help save a life by knowing CPR. Several times during the year, Bothwell offers a half-day course to teach participants how to provide CPR to an adult, child or infant and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) for adults and children. Participants also may add an optional half-day course on first aid for adults and children. Typical participants in these classes include corporate and retail employees, security, law enforcement, health and fitness staff, parents and grandparents. Special classes can be arranged for large groups.

The credentialed course curriculum is provided by the American Heart Association and includes a skills test. CPR and AED completion cards are presented. The course does not meet the special requirements for health-care provider certification.

Cardiac Rehabilitation is a four-phase, medically supervised exercise therapy program designed to help people with heart disease to return to a productive life by improving their health through physical activity.

The Cardiac Rehab program uses a multi-disciplinary approach of structured, progressive physical activity administered by trained therapists. Program participants and their families are educated about recognizing, preventing and treating cardiovascular disease.

Special emphasis is placed on modifying risk factors and recovering from the physical and psycho-social aspects of heart disease.

The outpatient cardiac rehabilitation is for patients who have been diagnosed with heart disease, which includes those who have suffered a heart attack or had heart surgeries. One phase of the program is applicable to those with cardiovascular risk factors, but who haven’t necessarily been diagnosed with a heart disease, including spouses of patients.

If your child is ready to enter the world of babysitting, make sure he or she is fully prepared by attending our Safe Sitter Program. Our comprehensive one-day course will help young people be safer, more confident caregivers and give them the resources they need to succeed.

New babysitters will learn about how to handle crises, keep their charges secure and nurture young children. Students learn about injury management, childcare essentials, injury prevention, behavior management, the business of babysitting and how to care for a choking child or infant. Course materials are designed for children ages 11 to 13.

Class sizes are limited. They fill quickly.

If your child is ready to enter the world of babysitting, make sure he or she is fully prepared by attending our Safe Sitter Program. Our comprehensive one-day course will help young people be safer, more confident caregivers and give them the resources they need to succeed.

New babysitters will learn about how to handle crises, keep their charges secure and nurture young children. Students learn about injury management, childcare essentials, injury prevention, behavior management, the business of babysitting and how to care for a choking child or infant. Course materials are designed for children ages 11 to 13.

Class sizes are limited. They fill quickly.

Description of service, support, educational opportunity: Bothwell Regional Health Center’s Diabetes Education Program provides individuals with diabetes the skills and knowledge needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk of long-term complications. The Bothwell Regional Health Center Diabetes Self Education Program has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality Self-Management Education.

Our Diabetes Education Program offers a variety of services provided by certified diabetes instructors. Services include individual sessions and group classes, nutrition therapy, blood glucose monitoring, insulin and insulin pump training, continuous glucose monitoring and gestational diabetes education.

Topics covered in our comprehensive program include medication, nutrition, physical activity, monitoring and complications.

A Diabetes Support Group meets to provide information and support to diabetic patients and family members. The support group is offered free of charge at 11:00 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Bothwell Education Center, 600 E. 14th St., (corner of 14th and Ingram) in Sedalia.

FREEDOM FROM SMOKING

Smokers who are ready to kick the habit can find the support and resources they need to be successful through our smoking cessation course. We follow the American Lung Association’s eight-session “Freedom from Smoking” program.

During the first three sessions, participants prepare a plan for quitting. The fourth session is “quit day,” and sessions five through eight are about maintaining a smoke-free life. Each session features activities and assignments that provide participants with the tools to quit smoking. The process includes both individual and group work.

Sessions are offered on a periodic basis throughout the year. The cost is $45 per person. Call Community Outreach at (660) 827-9138 for more information.
